The Department of Linguistics at the University of Vienna and the Institute of Iranian Studies at the Austrian Academy of Sciences warmly invite you to a symposium in honor of Jochem Schindler (1944–1994). Known affectionately as "Joki", Schindler held positions as a professor at the University of Vienna (1972–1978, 1987–1994) and Harvard University (1978–1987). During his tenure at the University of Vienna, he also served as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (1990–1992). A towering figure in 20th-century historical linguistics, Schindler made groundbreaking contributions to all aspects of Indo-European linguistics, particularly advancing the understanding of ablaut and nominal morphology—an influence that continues to shape generations of historical linguists.
